Stefan Voda is a wine-growing region in the south-east of Moldova. It is an old and high-quality region famous for its unique red wines. The climate of Stefan Voda is continental with little precipitation and influence of the Black Sea breeze and the Dniester River. The water area forms a special microclimate, perfect for growing grapes, especially red grape varieties. The soil types are predominantly brown and ash grey, regular and carbonated black soils rich in humus and micro elements. Most of the vineyard plantings are located at the altitude of 120-160 meters above the sea level. The predominant red grape varieties of the region are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Gamay, Saperavi, Feteasca Neagra, Rara Neagra and Shiraz. And for the white are Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Feteasca Alba, Riesling, Aligote, Rkatsiteli and Furmint. One of the best red wines of the region is made of the well-known blend of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Saperavi and Rara Neagra, produced exclusively in the delimited area of Purcari. Very much priced wines with great ageing potential. Stefan Voda is becoming increasingly popular in the western part of Europe and well known among wine professionals.
